Manage Groups of Work Orders
Maintenance Connection provides numerous methods to operate on a group of work orders together. This allows you to push changes to all records in the group in a single step. For example, multiple work orders can be selected in the expanded work order list view, and then acted upon using the buttons available at the bottom of the page.
Maintenance Connection also allows you to create defined work order groups with established relationships. These defined groups have an ongoing relationship that allows you to perform functions against the group whenever needed. Work orders that are associated with a defined group have group membership information displayed on the work order Group tab.
Most defined work order groups are created by Maintenance Connection based on the definition in a preventive maintenance schedule or project plan. Groups can also be manually created to allow batch processing or printing of the associated work orders, but this is not commonly done. Groups that are automatically generated as part of a preventive maintenance schedule can be defined to have a master/child relationship. Groups with master/child relationships behave as follows:
-
Work orders that are part of a group with a master/child relationship will have one of the work orders in the generated group designated as the master work order. Only the master work order is shown in the work order list, as it is the record you use to push changes to the entire group of work orders.
The remaining work orders in the group are labeled child records. These associated child work order records are not typically accessed independently, but are displayed on the work order Group tab. Work orders that are part of this type of group will have their group membership status indicated next to their ID in the work center header.
-
All other work orders in a group will not have a master/child relationship; they will simply be attached to the same group. This type of work order group can be created automatically as part of a preventive maintenance schedule / project plan, or it can be manually created to support batch processing and printing. Using the Group tab, these associated work orders can be acted upon together.
As with the automatically generated groups, these work orders can also be printed together on a work order or work order statement. Work orders that are members of a group created in this manner will have their group membership indicated next to their ID in the work center header.
If the work order associated with a group has a defined dependency through a project plan definition, this will be displayed in the header bar, rather than the group affiliation.
